Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)

Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards ensure that you are successfully completing your coursework and can continue to receive financial aid.  Federal regulations require the FCSON to establish, publish, and apply standards to monitor your progress toward completing your degree program. If you fail to meet the SAP standards, you will be placed on financial aid warning or suspension. Your academic performance must meet the SAP standards below:

  • Your cumulative GPA must be at least a 2.5 or higher for your entire enrollment.
  • You must complete your track within the stipulated timeframe of being admitted to the Nursing program (e.g. 12, 16, 18 or 20 months depending on your program). Your progress will be reviewed at the end of each semester.
  • You must earn at least 67% of the credits you attempt. Each semester, the total number of credits you have attempted will be compared to the total number of credits you have earned.
Tutoring

Faculty

The faculty at Felbry College believes that learning should be active and student-centered, supporting student responsibility, engagement, and interaction, with an emphasis on critical thinking, problem-solving, and evidence-based care management. Therefore, students who are struggling with a course/topic or have been identified as being on SAP will work with faculty to assist them in meeting minimum standards required for academic progression. Faculty offers guidance/tutoring and works with students to identify/reinforce minimum course expectations and recommend additional activities to facilitate progress in the areas agreed to by Student and Faculty.

Student Tutoring Connection (STC)

The Student Tutoring Connection (STC) is a flexible, peer-mediated strategy that involves students serving as academic tutors and tutees. Typically, a higher-performing student is paired with a lower performing student to review critical academic or behavioral concepts IN Nursing at FCSON. A timetable is scheduled and students are encouraged to sign-up for the convenient option available to them.

FAQs

Campus Café shows that I have a SAP hold. What is it and why do I have one?

The Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) hold restricts students from registration functions, including dropping or withdrawing from classes. SAP holds apply to students who are on Academic Warning or Probation. Anyone with a SAP hold needs to make an appointment with the SAP committee.

Do I have to meet with an advisor?

All first year and transfer students are required to work with their advisor before registering for classes. We recommend that all students work with an advisor as they progress towards graduation.

How should I prepare for my advising appointment?

To prepare adequately for your advising appointment, please complete all required placement tests 9if applicable), review the class schedule, think about your goals, make a list of questions, and prepare any documentation in advance.

What is a good course load? Should I take 9, 12, 15 credits?

In order to graduate in a timely matter, you should consider 15 credits per semester. Talk to your advisor about what is the right credit load for you.

How do I register?

You can register online on Campus Café. All first year and transfer students are required to work with an advisor prior to registering for classes.

Where can I find specific information about a class?

Course descriptions can be found by reviewing the Academic Catalog on our website. These course descriptions will not only describe the course but also includes all co-requisite or pre-requisite information.

How can I make a plan to graduate and complete my goal?

An academic plan is a combination of your short- and long-term goals. You will need to meet with your advisor to create and map out a plan to assist you in reaching your goals.

I am on academic Warning/Probation, how do I get off?

If you are on Academic Warning or Probation, you will have a Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) hold placed on your account. You will be required to work with the SAP committee and your advisor to make a plan to get back to satisfactory academic progress (SAP = 2.5 or higher GPA and 67% completion rate).
